Troy Fautanu didn’t just silence the doubts — he blew them off the field. Entering 2025 surrounded by questions about durability, readiness, and whether he could ever reach his first-round potential after losing nearly his entire rookie season… the young tackle has responded with something nobody expected: Dominance — week after week.

Troy Fautanu’s Stunning Breakout: Steelers Rookie Turns Doubt Into Dominance

Steelers 1st-rounder Troy Fautanu 'excited to attack the offseason' after injury | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Troy Fautanu entered the 2025 season surrounded by questions — but just weeks into the year, he’s answering them all with a level of play no one saw coming. After losing nearly his entire rookie season to injury, many wondered how quickly he would adjust. What no one expected was how fast he would flip the narrative… and how loudly he would force the entire NFL to take notice.

Now, after a jaw-dropping stretch of performances, one thing is clear:
Troy Fautanu isn’t just developing — he’s becoming a star.

From Uncertainty to Unstoppable

The Steelers drafted Fautanu with long-term faith, but even they couldn’t have anticipated how quickly he would rise. What was supposed to be a “learning year” has turned into a full-scale arrival.

This week, former Steelers lineman Trai Essex put into words what many inside the organization have quietly been saying:

“The kid keeps on getting better. These last few games he’s just been balling. The kid is going to be a Pro Bowler. There’s no doubt in my mind. He’s that good.”

Essex played with legends. He knows the difference between potential… and inevitability.

And he believes Fautanu is the latter.

Elite Numbers Back the Hype

Steelers tackle Troy Fautanu hurt, puts start in doubt - ESPN

If anyone thinks the praise is premature, the stats erase all doubt:

  • Only 1 sack allowed all season

  • Just 16 total pressures surrendered

  • 0 pressures allowed vs. Chicago in Week 12 on 72 snaps

That last number is the kind of performance that gets an entire coaching staff out of their seats. Against one of the most aggressive fronts the Steelers have faced this year, Fautanu didn’t just hold his own — he dominated every snap.

Among all right tackles with the highest snap counts, he is one of just six who have allowed one sack or fewer.

That’s not steady play.
That’s elite play.

A Cornerstone Emerges

Pittsburgh drafted Fautanu to anchor the line for years to come. But instead of simply growing into the role, he’s accelerating toward it. His technique, balance, and poise under pressure have transformed what was once a major question mark into one of the Steelers’ greatest strengths.

This is the type of development that doesn’t just elevate a player.
It transforms an entire offensive line — and potentially, an entire offense.

And the scariest part for the rest of the league?

Troy Fautanu is only getting started.
