TOM JONES MAY HAVE LOST HIS RED CHAIR — BUT AT 86, HE’S MAKING IT CLEAR THE MUSIC IS FAR FROM OVER

Posted on October 8, 2026 By admin

Sir Tom Jones has spent more than six decades proving that one career chapter does not have to define the next, and in 2026 he is doing it again. Just weeks after confirming that his departure from The Voice UK was not his choice, the 86-year-old Welsh legend is back where audiences first fell in love with him: onstage, microphone in hand, facing another stretch of North American concerts and reminding fans that losing a television chair does not mean losing the desire to perform.

Jones addressed his Voice UK exit publicly in September, making clear that he had wanted to continue as a full-time coach. He said ITV made the decision and that he had been told the reason involved “financial difficulty with insurance.” According to Jones, he was offered a significantly reduced role instead of returning as a full coach, an arrangement he said did not excite him. ITV confirmed that he would not return in his previous full-time capacity while leaving open the possibility of some future involvement.

For longtime viewers, the news landed hard because Tom had become one of the program’s defining figures. He first joined The Voice UK when it launched in 2012 and, apart from one season away, remained a familiar presence for years. His appeal was never built around flashy television drama. He brought stories, humor, musical memory and the authority of someone who had already spent decades performing before many contestants were born.

That is why his response to the departure has felt especially telling.

Rather than allowing the television decision to become a farewell narrative, Jones has continued touring. His current Come Gather Round Tour includes a run of U.S. dates through October and into November, with scheduled performances in Nashville, New Orleans, Thackerville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco among other stops. Ticket listings show the 86-year-old still maintaining the kind of schedule that would challenge performers decades younger.

The contrast is difficult to miss.

One door has closed, at least in the form fans knew it.

Another remains wide open.

Tom Jones claims he was fired from 'The Voice UK' for surprising reason

For Jones, the stage has always been the more permanent home anyway. Long before spinning red chairs and televised auditions, there was the voice: the enormous baritone behind “It’s Not Unusual,” “What’s New Pussycat?,” “Delilah” and “Green, Green Grass of Home.” His career has survived changing musical fashions, changing generations and even periods when critics assumed his best years belonged to the past.

Again and again, he kept going.

That endurance became even more meaningful after the death of his wife, Linda, in 2016. Jones has spoken openly about the devastating effect of losing the woman he had known since childhood and married in 1957. At one point, he questioned whether he could continue singing at all, but music eventually became part of the way he found his footing again.

Now, another transition is testing that resilience in a very different way.

Leaving The Voice UK may have been disappointing, especially because Jones says it was not a decision he wanted. But it has not changed the most important relationship in his professional life: the one between singer and audience.

That connection is still happening in real time.

Fans are still buying tickets. The band is still traveling. The lights are still coming up, and Jones is still walking toward the microphone.

His message to supporters has reflected that same confidence: whatever disappointment surrounded the television decision, he is looking forward rather than treating it as an ending.

“I’ll see you very soon.”

At 86, that line carries more weight than it might have decades ago.

It is not simply promotional language from another artist announcing another show. It sounds like a declaration from someone who has spent a lifetime refusing to let other people decide when the final chapter begins.

The red chair may no longer be waiting for Tom Jones.

But the stage still is.

And judging by the schedule ahead, he has every intention of sitting out as little as possible. 🎤❤️
